Pre-conference workshops

ASPA Singapore
Pre-Conference Virtual Airway Workshop Program
12 November 2021, Friday

Airway management in children can be challenging and intimidating even in the hands of an experienced anaesthesiologist. The ASPA Paediatric Airway (Virtual) Workshop is designed to teach basic airway strategies as well as advanced airway skills that are essential to ensure safe and successful outcomes. Participants who may benefit from this workshop include emergency physicians, paediatricians, anaesthesiologists and nurses. We hope to achieve the objectives of this course via short lectures and small group discussion by our team of airway experts from the children’s emergency, children’s intensive care and anaesthesia.

  1. Recognise the features of a difficult airway, both anatomically and physiologically
  2. Know how to optimise intubation safety
  3. Choose appropriate extubation strategies
  4. Become familiar with the Paediatric Difficult Airway algorithm
  5. Recognise complications associated with airway interventions and be able to mitigate or respond appropriately
  6. Demonstrate the ability to secure the airway using surgical methods (FONA) when direct/video laryngoscopy methods fail
  7. Demonstrate appropriate ventilation strategies following FONA
  8. Demonstrate team leadership and teamwork in a difficult airway scenario
