ASPA Singapore & SingHealth IPSQ presents:
“A Practical Approach to Quality Improvement and Performance
Management – A Virtual Workshop”
conducted by Wake Up Safe
6 November 2021, 0800 – 1110

Quality Improvement has been defined as the combined and unceasing efforts of health care professionals, patients and their families, researchers, educators and payors to make changes that will lead to better patient outcomes (health), better system performance (care) and better professional development (learning). This foundational Quality Improvement workshop, supported by our Wake Up Safe collaborative, is designed to provide an introduction to the Science of Improvement and provide the background knowledge, skills and analytic framework required for quality, safety and performance improvement work.

Clinicians are looking for ways to bring about improvement in care delivery in their local settings. This course will teach them how to use the Model of Improvement, a simple but powerful framework, as well as provide them with a few practical tools to address the gaps in the quality of care they identify.

This workshop which includes a number of small group exercises will focus on the key foundational elements of improvement work such as; setting an aim statement, developing ideas for change, implementing tests of change, key measurement concepts and how to go about creating a culture for improvement.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Provide the foundation required for quality improvement work appropriate for members with wide ranging background knowledge and experience, using the IHI “Model for Improvement” framework.
  2. Provide the tools and analytical framework required for improvement work, with applied learning table-exercises to enhance the applicability of these tools .
  3. Discuss the concepts of Lean methodology, the use of Lean tools and provide an example of a clinical project using this framework that has demonstrated improvement in the perioperative area.
  4. Discuss the psychology of change and the process of team building needed for fostering a culture of improvement and a QI discipline.
